Haynes Wins Association's Highest Individual Honor

Louisville, KY (November 16, 2009) – Mary Haynes, the administrator at Nazareth Home in Louisville, is the recipient of the 2009 Ira O. Wallace Award. This award is the highest honor given to an individual in the long term care profession in Kentucky.

The annual award, named for the founder of the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities (KAHCF), is given to the individual who best represents “outstanding leadership and meritorious, unselfish service and dedication to the association.” KAHCF is the trade association that represents proprietary and nonproprietary long term care facilities across the Commonwealth.

Haynes has had an active career serving the residents of Kentucky, but her focus on caring for people with Alzheimer’s has made her a state leader on this issue. She developed Kentucky’s only two licensed free-standing Alzheimer’s Centers, along with programs and services for families and persons living with dementia. In 1994, Haynes was asked to chair a steering committee on clinical care for the Governor’s Task Force on Alzheimer’s disease during the Gov. Brereton Jones’ administration. She is currently the past president of the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities.

“Mary has been such a leader in this state for individuals and families dealing with Alzheimer’s disease. Her drive and determination to better those individuals’ lives is particularly noteworthy,” said KAHCF president Ruby Jo Cummins Lubarsky. “She has brought that same determination to reshaping our profession and focusing on person centered care, which will benefit future residents of not just Nazareth Home, but all Kentuckians. Mary deserves our congratulation.”

Haynes is a visible community leader, working through Louisville’s Leadership Network and Leadership Louisville to raise awareness to the importance of nursing home care and volunteering on the faculty at Bellarmine and Spalding universities. She was the Association’s Administrator of the Year in 2004 and presented with the Nelda Barton Award for community service in 2005.

The presentation was made during the Annual Awards Banquet on the last evening of KAHCF’s Annual Meeting November 12.

Facility Professional Achievement District Awards

Terri Stratton, Nurse Education Coordinator at Nazareth Home received a 2009

Award in Administrative Nursing at the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities (KAHCF) Annual Meeting on November 9, 2009.

KAHCF, the trade association that represents proprietary and nonproprietary long term care facilities throughout the Commonwealth, presented over 100 awards at the convention that was held at the Galt House East Hotel in Louisville, November 10th through the 12th. Stratton’s award recognizes her strong commitment to both the nursing home profession and quality care at Nazareth Home.

Nazareth Home Receives National Award

My Inner View - an independent research firm, today awarded 520 nursing homes the coveted "Excellence in Action" Award, an honor recognizing those nursing homes that achieved high levels of excellence as demonstrated by having overall customer and/or workforce satisfaction levels fall within the top 10% of My Inner View's customer data base. This award recognizes Nazareth Home's commitment to superior customer and employee satisfaction.

"This year's award recipients have demonstrated their commitment to excellence," said Brad Shiverick, Vice President of Research, My Inner View. "The facilities receiving the Excellence in Action award have achieved high levels of customer and/or workforce satisfaction in 2008. These facilities deserve to be recognized."

This national award was presented to any My Inner View customer who completed a customer (family or resident) or workforce satisfaction survey in 2008, had a minimum 30% response rate and scored in the top 10% of qualifying facilities on the question, "What is your recommendation of this facility to others," or "What is your recommendation of this facility as a place to work," in terms of the percentage of respondents rating the facility as "excellent".

Nazareth Home receives CMS Top Rating

Nazareth Home has been selected by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services to receive the government’s new 5-Star rating for overall outstanding performance. Nazareth Home is one of a select group of nursing homes in Kentucky to receive the 5-Star distinction, which is the highest designation possible under the new CMS rating system.

To be designated as 5-Star, Nazareth Home exceeds the requirements related to health inspections, staffing and quality measures. Only the top 10% of nursing homes nationally receive the 5 Star rating.

While we are pleased with the recognition, it is the daily experience and communication between residents, families and staff that provide both validation and evaluation of our programs. The 5-Star rating program is part of Nursing Home Compare, an online tool that CMS offers to help consumers more easily compare nursing homes in their area. Under the system, 5-Star equals “much above average,” 4 –Star equals “above average,” 3-Star equals “average,” and so on.

Nazareth Home, a long term care facility located at 2000 Newburg Road, is sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. Nazareth Home was developed in 1976 and completely rebuilt into all private rooms and apartments in 2001 and has been recognized as Kentucky’s facility of the year.
